Withdrawal Policies

Review the semester Refund Schedule for the deadline dates of each session of classes to determine if you are "dropping" at 100% refund or "withdrawing" after the 100% refund period has ended.

Consequences of Dropping (Dropping before or during the 100% Refund Period)

  • You will receive a full refund for dropping the class(es)
  • The class(es) will not be recorded on your transcript
  • The class(es) will not be counted when Federal Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is calculated.

If you drop ALL your classes:

  • All aid (federal, state and institutional) will be canceled

If you drop one or more, but not all, classes:

  • Your aid may be adjusted based on your new enrollment level

If your enrollment level falls below 6 credits you will:

  • lose eligibility for Federal Loans, Federal Work-Study,  PA State Grant, Federal SEOG Grant
  • receive an email to complete Exit Counseling to select your repayment plan if you borrowed federal loans
  • enter the grace period or repayment on your prior loans (refer to your loan company, found at www.StudentAid.gov for more information)

Consequences of Withdrawing  (Withdrawing after the 100% Refund Period)

  • You will receive a partial refund if you withdraw during the 60% or 10% Refund Period.
    • There is no refund if you withdraw after the end of the 10% Refund Period
  • The class(es) will be recorded on your transcript with the grade of "W"
  • Your Federal Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) will be affected at the end of the term.

If you withdraw from one or more, but not all, classes:

  • Your aid (federal, state & institutional) may be adjusted based on your new enrollment level

If your enrollment level falls below 6 credits you will:

  • lose eligibility for Federal Loans, Federal Work-Study,  PA State Grant, Federal SEOG Grant
  • receive an email to complete Exit Counseling to select your repayment plan if you borrowed federal loans
  • enter the grace period or repayment on your prior loans (refer to your loan company, found at www.StudentAid.gov, for more information)

If you withdraw from ALL your classes (also known as a Complete Withdrawal):

  • All aid (federal, state & institutional) may be adjusted.  PA State Grants may be canceled and Federal Pell Grants may be recalculated based on the percentage of the semester you completed.  You will receive a letter explaining the details and how much you may owe to BC3 for tuition.
    • If you fail to withdraw and just stop attending you will receive F grades and be considered an "Unofficial Withdrawal".  You will be subject to the same recalculation of aid and will receive a letter explaining the details and how much you may owe to BC3 for tuition.

Federal Complete Withdraw Policy

If you completely withdraw (officially or unofficially), you may have to repay some of the financial aid funds you received.  Unofficial withdrawals are reported as F grades at the end of term by faculty with their last date of attendance.

Complete Withdrawal Policy

If you completely withdraw (officially or unofficially) the Financial Aid Office is required to calculate the adjusted award amount you are eligible to receive based on your last date of attendance. You may be responsible to return award money for the portion of the semester you did not attend. The Financial Aid Office runs a weekly report identifying last date of attendance. If a student has withdrawn from ALL courses the calculation on Federal Programs is applied. Undisbursed Federal Loans will be returned to lender. Undisbursed Federal Grants will be adjusted to amount earned. If a student completely withdrawals during BC3 refund policy the initial charges will be assessed.

You will receive a letter from the Financial Aid office notifying you of your obligation. Depending on the calculation, you may owe money back to BC3 and The Department of Education. Any monies owed to The Department of Education are defined as "overpayment" and will restrict you from receiving federal financial aid at any institution. BC3 will return Federal Loan and Grant funds to the Department of Education within 45 day requirement.

Examples of How Completely Withdrawing Impacts Your Financial Aid

Our office has outlined two examples of how completely withdrawing can impact your financial aid. If you are thinking of withdrawing, feel free to contact the Financial Aid office, and we will be happy to go over your options.
